What do you know about Tarot cards?
For some reason, tarot cards have been on my mind a lot lately… and I would just like to know what you think of them, or any information you can give to me about them. Do you believe? Have you ever had a reading that came true?
I’m not sure if I believe, but I am a pretty intuitive person and I believe in ghosts, as I have seen them, and I was just wondering, what is the best way to acquire my own set of tarot cards?

Answer by Journey
I know they are stupid and childish and God does not approve.

Answer by vinslave
They are a means of divination, but not the last “word” on the present or the future. Look for a set that you feel comfortable working with and learn how to use and understand them.

I don’t like them myself. I think its a link to bad spirits.I would leave them alone!!!!

There’s a woman next to my house who does this, always sitting on the corner by the door of her place, and stopping passerbys to invite themselves inside for hand readings and tarot cards.

I’ve been called by her twice, but I’ve declined both times with wicked, clever excuses.

Oh, and she is young and good looking, so most of the men only accept just for the hell of entering her place, or getting her to hold their hands. Sick, poor bastards. Lol.

Here are a couple of sites that give good information on tarot cards:

best way of getting your own set is to take a trip to your local book store or metaphysical store and look around at the cards as to which feels right to you

Answer by Vanessa
Yes i believe in tarot cards. I have done my own readings and i own my own tarot deck. The only thing about readings it that when you read about the future you can change it so the reading doesn’t always come true not the outcome at lease. An if you do use them you have to believe in them and you have to be able to work in the Alta state of mind and always bless you cards and never ever let another person touch them unless they are cutting the deck. An if you want to buy some go to a local magic or book store to get ones there are 100 different kinds of decks for different personality’s and different believes.

Hope i helped Blessed be love Vanessa

Tarot cards are usually based on the person that its telling a story for. I’ve had readings done to me, but these readings usually are general ideas and you just put ur experiences to what they say. For instance it may you are going through a family hardship. Well thats general, but then you remembered that your grandma is currently fighting with a disease or condition. All they do is put things in perspective and helps you think about things in a differnt view.

You can go to Borders and get the cards.

I read them and have been studying them and their folkloric history for quite some time. As far as having readings come true is is a subjective sort of thing they do not say that you will buy a dress of a certain color or that a man named Bob is your true love they merely tell you what influences are in your past, present and future and what the possible outcome may be if these things remain unaltered. They are very accurate if read properly. ~M~

Wt is the meaning of these tarot cards result belongs to career opportunities?
my question was related to get new job or promotion ….and I’ve got this result ~:

How you feel about yourself now? : Hierophant or Pope
What you most want at this moment?…. The Fool
Your fears ….The Magician or Juggler
What is going for you ?…..Death
What is going against you ?…..The Tower
Outcome….Judgment

Does it mean positive or negative ..?

I always thought tarot cards were bull crap. I know astrology might be a little sketchy but it at least has a strong basis in astronomy and mathematics.

Answer by hikarihime9029
@bilderback,
She was asking a question about her tarot reading. If you can’t provider the asker with a proper answer, then don’t answer!

She was asking about her tarot reading, not about whether tarot is real or not or whether it is comparable to astrology.

Didn’t your mother ever tell you that if you have nothing nice to say, then don’t say anything at all? Obviously not. You clearly need to go read the Yahoo Answers terms and conditions to learn how to properly answer a question because, sir, you are in violation.

Sorry about that ^^ Anyway, back to the question:

To me, it is very positive.

The hierophant for how you feel about yourself means that you are fully knowledgable and capable of doing the job you seek.

Getting the fool for what you most want is good. The fool means an unexpected and exciting change. You want a new job or that promotion and you want it now. You really want to walk into your job and your boss tell you “Guess what? You got the promotion!” or to do a job search and see an add requesting your job skills.

The magician means being fully capable. You fear that you are not fully capable and because of this, you fear that you will not get that promotion or you will not find that new job.

But what is going for you is the Death card. Death means change and can be very positive. I believe that the death card is positive in your case. It could mean that you are taking steps in the right direction for your career.

The tower can be very confusing. It is a good/bad card. It means that something bad will happen to you, but after something bad happens; something good will come from it. The good coming out of it will always out weight how bad the situation was. I gave my friend a tarot reading and she kept getting the Tower when asking about a road trip she was going to take. She went on the road trip and was in a horrible accident. Her car was totalled and she was in so much pain that she couldn’t leave her bed for a week. After she got better, the person that caused the accident wanted to settle everything out of court so he covered her medical bills and even gave her a new car! So, the tower isn’t all that bad. It will suck, but good will always come out of it. The tower for you may mean that you get fired from your current job, but you find a new job that is better. You never really know what the tower is until it hits you and it is always unexpected.

The outcome for you being judgement means that it is meant to be. You have sown your seeds and you are in for a plentiful harvest! Judgement is a happy positive card and represents new beginings!

This is a very positive reading and I hope I was clear in explaining it. If you have anymore questions, feel free to contact me!

I know that Jung is said to have used them extensively. You can surely find much info about them on the net, but I can say they have a long history and are full of symbolic meaning and, like many things, they work if you believe they do, like a placebo.

You will find references that they can create a dependency and therefore are potentially dangerous to sensitive persons. There are many different sets of tarot cards, but the basics are all the same, and most sets come with detailed instructions. Even if you do not use them for strict divination, you will find it educational to look over the symbolic system in use for centuries.

tarot for me is not a fortune or future telling thing. I use tarot to see things that may interrupt my life cycle. Whether it be of my own doing or outside influence. Tarot tells you what may possibly be in your way or not. It does not tell your future the way a psychic or say a crystal ball reader would.
:Yes, when done right they are very accurate.
: Look online or go to your local witching store. I buy all of my tools at crones cupboard in the next city from where I live because there is no place near me.
:You can do a google search of your area.

First of all, their origin is not actually occult and they are used very differently in many countries. I’ll start with the bit you might not expect and then look at the occult history.

Tarot cards were created in mid 15th century Italy, probably for the Milanese court. The consist of two parts: a standard pack of Latin suited playing cards (predating tarot in Europe by about 70 years), and a fifth suit of picture cards. These extra cards took as their theme a triumph procession, hence their early name of trionfi, meaning triumphs and from which we get our word trump. And this is what they are, a suit of fixed trumps for a family of card games that continues to be played throughout continental Europe to this day. (It was the spread of tarot games that popularized the device of trump cards)

For about 350 years, there is no record of tarot cards being used for anything other than games – and contrary to popular myth, the Church did not condemn or try to suppress them (outside of a few speeches about gambling, though it is worth noting that sometimes tarot cards were specifically exempt from bans affecting regular card games)

With only a couple of exceptions, tarot games are what we call point-trick games. This means that, like whist, bridge, and spades, cards are won in tricks but unlike them, different cards carry different point values and so it is not the number of cards that you take that wins the hand but the number of card points in them. There is great variety in the games played but all of them are known for their strong strategic element. Quite often, you might not recognize the games played as tarot thanks to many countries adopting French suited tarot packs that feature trumps of a variety of themes (from Asterix comics, Droopy cartoons, Musicians, and even Woody Allen Films).

It was not until the end of the 18th century that tarot is first associated with the occult. The Parisian occultist Antoine Court de Gebelin published the claim that the cards came from ancient Egypt, codifying the wisdom of their priests and carried to Europe by the Gypsies. His claims have long been recognized as false but at the time the did capture the popular imagination. Soon other occultists and diviners began to adopt tarot, building upon Gebelin’s stories and integrating the cards into their systems of magic. For about 100 years, these ideas were limited to France but at the end of the 19th century, some British occultists began to import the cards and myths into the English speaking world, where there was no remembered history of the games. Here the cards began to be heavily redesigned to reflect their beliefs and this has led to the cards that you will be familiar with.

It is one thing to say that tarot cards are not intrinsically occult or magical, another to say that they don’t work. People use the cards in a number of ways (other than card play). If reflecting on the images is something that people can meditate on, then they clearly work for meditation. On the other hand, many things have been used for divination, such as dominoes, knuckle bones, and sticks. I do not think that divination works but it is something that you must decide for yourself, based upon reason and evidence.

As for the games, well, I think that they are the best in the world – and I’m not alone. In France, tarot is reported as nationally their second most popular card game!

Tarot dates back to way before BC and were created to provide symbols of the various aspects of a person, life and the development of a person.

I have had many readings come true and some that have not. Futures are not always set in stone. See my blog post on this:

Readings have given me insights into situations. It’s like my memory is being guided by the cards to look at different aspects of the question. This happens when one looks at any work of art. The mind naturally wants to create a story. I have had bad experiences–bad readings–but they just affect my mood and nothing bad ever comes from them. A friend of mine says he can hear them ring when he lays them out properly. That seems a little kooky to me.

I’ve been reading the Tarot cards for over twenty years. During a reading, I ask people if what I’m saying makes sense. Ninety percent or more of the time, the answer is yes.
The best deck to start with is the Rider-Waite deck. It’s pretty basic, but the pictures are well known, used in many books about interpretation, and probably best to learn the meanings from. After you’ve read for a while, look at other decks and find one that “speaks” to you.
